The
Conference includes plenary presentations from 8 international speakers
working at the forefront of interdisciplinary research into health and
social care, and 24 parallel sessions of proffered papers and'Theories and Methods in Applied Biocultural Anthropology'
University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida, U.S.A. October 19-20, 2007
(Featured Speakers: William Dressler, David Himmelgreen, Thomas Leatherman, Daniel Sellen)
The purpose of the conference is
to make available to students and faculty of anthropology (and allied
disciplines) a series of presentations on theories and methods in
applied biocultural anthropology. This effort is a response to the
increasing fragmentation of anthropology into cultural and biological
segments. The presenters will discuss theoretical issues (such as
political-economic approaches to health), applied biocultural
anthropology (the nutritional effects of globalization, support for
optimal infant and young child feeding), and
methodological approaches (such as cultural consensus analysis and
methods to study maternal and childhood
health and food insecurity).
